COMMUNITY NEWS

With the rainy season fast approaching & the vivid memory of a swamp outside the crèche, my parents kindly donated solid stepping-stones that we have placed at the entrance of the crèche garden. With the deck already in place it should all keep the kids & teachers mud-free during the wet months to come.

Healthy Creche Garden

The veggie garden is also firmly back on track with a lot of hard work going into making sure that weeds are kept out & veggies have the best chance to grow & eventually make their way into the crèche kitchen. Speaking of which we have a new crèche cook who is doing a wonderful job in making sure the kids are fed & energized for their day of play & learning.

The hall where we base most of our activities now has blinds on all windows. This not only adds to the aesthetics of the place but as we show many visual aids we no longer have to borrow blankets from the crèche to darken the windows during these times. It’s been such a blessing to Lighthouse to have somewhere to bless & walk alongside the community.

With all the regular programmes going steadily on we are trying to get a new water tank installed as after more in-fighting in the community a few homes were cut off from their water supply. In the next blog we are hoping to have a positive outcome regarding this issue where people do not have to walk over 2oo meters to get water.

TEDDY-BEAR PROJECT

With Journey to Hope walking alongside Lighthouse Mission, we are aiming to empower ladies in the community by teaching them to sew & make these wonderful bears that will hopefully sell very well & provide an income for these ladies. At the moment we are working with two ladies who are very keen to learn & move forward positively, making a difference in their own lives & providing for their families. God asks us to be faithful with the little & He will entrust us with more.

ELECTIONS

Now that elections have passed we hope everything will settle down. It is always a volatile time. Our little hall was one of the areas designated to voting & when we went to cast our votes late that night we saw that only 199 people voted at that station. These low registration numbers show that people have lost trust in our leaders after years of empty promises. Our prayer is that the people start putting more faith in God than in man & they will see some real changes!
